The ice cream is one of the key symbols of the traditional British seaside holiday, so I have made it a central theme in my recent work. The colours, textures and melting quality of a fresh ice cream is particularly exciting to capture in paint, although I am equally attracted to the solid, static plastic ice creams used to advertise ice cream parlours by the seaside.
